Meet St. Mary's School Council

School Council

We value the opinion of our pupils.  We have Class Councils and their discussions are fed directly into our School Council. The School Council play an active part in the daily work of the school.  They hold positions of responsibility which help the smooth running of the school. They have also made a huge impact at community level.  Our School Council made history at Stormont by being the first children ever to give formal evidence to a Stormont Committee when they lobbied the committee for Culture Arts and Leisure in an effort to keep our local library open.  The library not only remained open but moved to brand new premises in September 2013.

Our School Council have built strong relationships with local Councillors and MLAs.  They recently visited Magherafelt Council offices at the request of Chairperson and past pupil Catherine Ellatar.  They took their seats in the chamber, compared their work with that of the local council and had a debate on saving energy.
